Document Repository System
The current stable version of DRS is 0.9.0
The current development version of DRS is 0.10.2dev (You may want to use a nightly package)
The Document Repository System is a system of managing documents within
an organization. It works with a Frontpage Web (which, at this time, is
required for the document repository to work, though I am planning on making
Frontpage optional sometime), so that Windows clients can
seemlessly save their work to the repository directly from Office
(though with the check-in/check-out system, almost any browser/operating
system can use DRS). The program itself, though, is geared to run on a
Linux server with Frontpage Extensions installed on Apache. It is
programmed in PHP, and has many features other than just a document
repository, including: forums, announcements, tasks, calendars,
event management, user administration, etc...

I no longer have time to continue the development of DRS. If you are
interested in taking over, please contact me (look on the menu for the link)
You will need to have good experience in PHP, MySQL, and know how Frontpage
works. Thanks |
| CVS might be unstable | September 16, 2002 5:25 PM | Category: CVS By: Andrew
Please read this if you are planning on downloading a nightly release
or DRS from CVS. I am about to commit a patch that will make DRS pretty
much independent from Frontpage. It is not yet usable, because I have not
yet created the administration tools yet. It might also be unstable, because
the commit is somewhere near 1000-1500 lines. If you want to download it to test,
thats fine; however, it is not considered stable anymore. There are a few
things I need to work out before I can say it is completely free of Frontpage
extensions, and I also have to create some sort of administration tools for this.
Thanks for your support. |
| Demo Problem/More Progress | September 16, 2002 4:09 PM | Category: Site/Other By: Andrew
Oops. With a CVS commit last night, I screwed up the demo. It has been
fixed now, but it required me to reset the database. This isn't disasterous,
because it is a demo, but there may be some more problems with it. Please
contact me if you find trouble with it. Also, I
am actively working on making Frontpage extensions optional! Woohoo! |
| Development Releases | September 15, 2002 2:53 PM | Category: Development Releases By: Andrew
I probably should release 0.10.3dev, but I really hate releasing files,
especially development releases. So, I will only release development releases
if I really see a need to. If you want the current
features in the development release, please either download it via
CVS or Nightly Packages. I
consider the CVS pretty stable, and I'm pretty good at not breaking the program
with CVS commits (the demo keeps in sync with CVS). |
| Invitation System | September 1, 2002 12:39 PM | Category: Releases By: Andrew
I have added an invitation system to DRS. You can probably expect
a 0.10.3dev release soon--it will fix the calendar bugs fixed by 0.9.0 and
other features. |
| 0.9.0 Released | August 31, 2002 7:58 PM | Category: Releases By: Andrew
I released 0.9.0 today in response to a bug found by Jeffrey Chimene. While
browsing the code, I found two more minor linking problems in the calendar. All
these have been fixed with this release. ChangeLog
. Downloads. Please submit bugs
if you find them. Thanks |
| 0.10.2dev Released | August 24, 2002 4:15 PM | Category: Development Releases By: Andrew
Unrelated to the release of 0.9.0RC6, DRS 0.10.2dev was released. This
fixes many bugs and adds new features--Change Log here.
The demo is running the CVS version of DRS, which is, at the moment, identical
to 0.10.2dev. Please try it out, and submit bugs. |
| 0.9.0RC6 Released | August 24, 2002 3:45 PM | Category: Releases By: Andrew
0.9.0RC6 has been released. This fixes a bug in the way emails were
sent to people who were assigned tasks. Thanks to J E Chimene
for finding this bug. |
| 0.9.0RC5 Released | August 17, 2002 5:36 PM | Category: Releases By: Andrew
0.9.0RC5 has been released. This fixes a bug in the printer friendly system
where it wouldn't work if DRS wasn't running on port 80. Also, the background
'pixel' wouldn't show up if DRS wasn't running in the root directory of the
document root of the server. These are minor bugs, and don't affect many
people. Please submit bugs and
visit the ChangeLog for more details. |
| New Documentation Writer | August 15, 2002 8:12 PM | Category: Staff By: Andrew
I am pleased to announce that I have finally found a documentation writer
(and a good one, too :-) Jeffrey Chimene will be in charge of writing
documentation for DRS. I welcome him. In other news, DRS now includes a
web-based configuration tool (only in CVS, right now). This is a huge step
in making DRS easier to install and configure. |
| New Releases | August 11, 2002 5:35 PM | Category: Releases By: Andrew
0.9.0RC4 and 0.10.1dev have been released today. Both fix a bug in the
login form pointing to the incorrect place. 0.10.1dev also has some new
features. See the ChangeLog and submit bugs. |
| 0.9.0RC3 Released | August 7, 2002 7:28 PM | Category: Releases By: Andrew
I have released 0.9.0RC3, which fixes yet another bug in the way Frontpage
dates are handled. Hopefully this is the last bug for a while. 0.9.0RC3 is
now considered a stable release, because I don't have the time to maintain
3 branches (0.8.0, 0.9.0, and the MAIN branch). I don't think it has bugs,
but you can test that using the demo, which is kept up to date. |
| New Releases | August 7, 2002 8:52 AM | Category: Releases By: Andrew
I have released 3 new versions of DRS, the 0.8.1 and 0.9.0RC2 releases
fix a bug in the way frontpage time stamps are handled. The development
release, 0.10.0dev, fixes this bug and adds many new features (the check-out/
check-in system, viewing files in browser, etc.) I have added zip files
for Windows--all the files have been converted using 'unix2dos' so you can
actually read the files. Have a good day. The demo now uses the CVS version
of DRS, so it is already up-to-date with these fixes. |
| Zip Files Posted | August 6, 2002 8:14 PM | Category: Releases By: Andrew
I have added .zip files for all current releases. Now Windows users
(I remind you that Windows support is very beta) can download DRS in a 'native'
(if you will) format. |
| New Check-in/Check-out support | August 6, 2002 4:54 PM | Category: Features By: Andrew
I have committed to the CVS code that allows users to check-in and
check-out files. Therefore, any client can download files and then reupload
them. This is only in the CVS version, but it will soon make a development
release. This is a major step, so I just thought I'd let you know. |
| Demo upgrade | August 5, 2002 9:39 AM | Category: Site/Other By: Andrew
The demo is now running DRS 0.9.0RC1. Now, you can also add files to the
repository because I've given the demo user author access. You can now edit,
add, and delete documents from the repository. You still need Windows to be
able to edit/view files. I'm working on a check-in/check-out system so that
every platform can view/edit files. For now, that's all. If you find bugs,
please please please submit them. |
| Many releases | Augst 5, 2002 8:36 AM | Category: Releases By: Andrew
Alright, here we go. I have released a bunch of new files today and I'll
attempt to explain them. 0.8.6dev is the new development release, but 0.9.0RC1
is identical to it (I have branched off to a 0.9.0 branch). If you could please
test this release for bugs (the demo will be running it soon), I would be most
appreciative. Also, 0.8.0 was released. It is considered 'stable', but lacks
many features. I recommend using 0.9.0RC1, but if you're super scared, use
0.8.0. 0.9.0RC1 has a different database structure than 0.8.5dev and 0.8.0(RC#)
. If you are upgrading, you must delete the db and reinitialize it. Also,
the config.php file is different. You cannot use old config.php files for this
0.9.0RC1 release. Thanks. Please submit bugs! |
| I'm back | August 4, 2002 9:37 PM | Category: Other By: Andrew
I'm back from my trip, and while on it, I was able to code a bit. DRS
now includes integration with groups (though there is a known bug already). You
can now submit whole groups to review files (I do believe I have mastered JavaScript
trying to get the select box on the 'Submit for Review' page working :-). The
sorting functions were the worst (notice that the select boxes sort themselves
after you select/deselect a group or user. Anyway, see the
ChangeLog for all the gory details. I will probably release 0.8.6dev tomorrow,
when I fix the group bug. |
| Demo Upgrade | July 26, 2002 3:47 PM | Category: Site/Other By: Andrew
The demo is now running the latest development release (0.8.5-dev-pl1).
If you find a bug in it, please submit it. |
| 0.8.5dev-pl1 Released | July 26, 2002 11:13 AM | Category: Development Releases By: Andrew
I have released a small bugfix to 0.8.5dev. Basically, when adding an FP
user, DRS would still add a user to a subweb, even if the 'No Access' option
was selected. The user would then have the role of an anonymous user. This
has been fixed with the 0.8.5dev-pl1 release. |
| 0.8.5dev Released | July 26, 2002 10:21 AM | Category: Development Releases By: Andrew
I released DRS 0.8.5dev today. This is a development release, but adds
many nice features. The config.php file is less cramped looking, so it is
easier to read. HTML can be allowed/disallowed in announcements, events, tasks,
and forum posts; you can also specify what tags to allow. You can now let
DRS try to determine your timezone. And the best feature now is that you can
add a complementary Frontpage user when adding a DRS user; this means you don't
have to add DRS users, then go the the Frontpage admin page and add FP users--
you can do it all from the same page! Wahoo! I will be going away for a week,
so development will stop until then. Hope you find it useful. As always, please
submit bugs and tell me if you
get DRS working. Thanks! |
| Demo Upgrade | July 24, 2002 1:46 PM | Category: Site/Other By: Andrew
I am updating the demo to 0.8.4dev, so please be patient; it may go down
for a few minutes
Update by Andrew: I got a bit side-tracked, but the update is now complete.
Since it is running the latest development version, if you find a bug, please
submit it |
| DRS 0.8.4dev Released | July 24, 2002 1:42 PM | Category: Development Releases By: Andrew
0.8.4dev was released today. It fixes the bug that 0.8.0RC4 was released
for, and adds support for using wvSummary. Basically, now much more information
can be displayed about the file (if it is an Office file). Also, when uploading
a file (or changing a files properties), the title can be extracted from the
file, rather than having to retype it; this adds more consistancy. This is
a development release, and things haven't been tested enough, but if you're
dying to have the features, I don't think there are too many bugs :-) |
| DRS 0.8.0RC4 Released | July 24, 2002 10:02 AM | Category: Releases By: Andrew
0.8.0RC4 was released today. It fixes a bug where DRS wouldn't work if
you had already created the MySQL database, but not the tables. This is a
pretty serious bug, but unless you have experienced the problem, you don't
need to upgrade. |
| I'm Back | July 22, 2002 8:32 AM | Category: News By: Andrew
I am back from my trip so development on DRS will begin again. This is
busy time, and I will be going away again next week, but I'll try to
get as much done as possible. Thanks |
| 0.8.0RC3 and 0.8.3dev Released | July 13, 2002 7:13 AM | Category: Releases/Development Releases By: Andrew
The third release candidate for DRS 0.8.0 has been released. Also, a
development release, 0.8.3dev has been released. The RC3 fixes a bug where
dates could become inconsistent and a problem with date spans spanning too long
on the calendar. I will be going away for a week tomorrow, so development
(for the most part, the new developers may do some work) will stop. Thanks
for I'll you help/cooperation; if you get DRS running, I'd love to hear about it. |
| Demo up | July 12, 2002 12:34 PM | Category: Site/Other By: Andrew
I have setup of demo of DRS running on my server. If you want to check it
out, go here. Please read the warning, and be a good
person; I have no time to be a moderator of stupid crap. Try things out, and
even report bugs :-), but don't be dumb about it--you know what I mean. Thanks. |
| 0.8.0RC2 (Stable Release) Released | July 11, 2002 9:35 PM | Category: Releases By: Andrew
0.8.0RC2 has been released. It fixes a minor bug in the pop-up javascript
calendar system, where, on some dates, it could be off a month. No other
changes have been added (no other development features, etc..) so it is
still considered stable, but if you find a bug, please submit it |
| 0.8.2dev (Development Release) Released | July 11, 2002 7:46 PM | Category: Development Releases By: Andrew
A development release of DRS has been released, 0.8.2dev. This features
some bugfixes and new features (see the ChangeLog),
but it is not considered stable. I found a bug today that has not been fixed
in any releases, but it will be soon. Basically, it amounts to the different
ways DRS makes the use of mktime(). Some calls include the $isDst property, others
don't, so inconsistancies in time could occur; it should be fixed tomorrow, and
0.8.0RC2 and 0.8.3dev will be released. |
| Another New Developer | July 11, 2002 4:19 PM | Category: Staff By: Andrew
We have another new developer who will be joining the project
development, Ed Griffith (griffed1864). We now have 3 developers, which
is the most I'll take on right now. The only thing I need now is a documentation
writer. If you are interested see the job specification.
Thanks |
| New Developer | July 11, 2002 9:40 AM | Category: Staff By: Andrew
A new developer will be joining the team, David Haley (khoralin). I'm
excited to have someone else working with team, and it's a great opportunity
to push the development of DRS at a faster pace. I will be gone all next
week, so the next release will probably not be until 2-3 weeks, but hopefully
it will be feature-rich :-) |
| 0.8.1dev (Development Release) released | July 10, 2002 9:04 PM | Category: Development Releases By: Andrew
0.8.1dev, which is a development release, not yet considered
stable has been released. It features input validation on most pages
(this system still needs to be checked for bugs) and an added
configuration option that, when set, non-admins cannot edit/delete
announcements, events, or tasks that they didn't originally create. |
| 0.8.0RC1 Released | July 9, 2002 12:10 PM | Category: Releases By: Andrew
0.8.0RC1 has been released. Even though it is a release
candidate, it is considered stable. It has many changes/bug-fixes (see
the ChangeLog and an upgrade is
recommended. If you do find a bug, please submit it. Thanks. The
database that 0.8.0RC1 runs on is not comatible with previous databases.
This is because of organization/phone tracking, all-day/no end date
events, and the introduction of a GROUPS column that will be used in
later versions |
